The ATC Index with DDDs and the Guidelines for ATC classification and DDD assignment are accessible to interested parties, however only the Internet version of the Index is available free of charge. An integrated online-version of the Index and the Guidelines are available at the ATC/DDD website on a subscription basis. The Index and the Guidelines can also be purchased as books.

The Index and Guidelines are published in English and translated into Spanish and German. Updating and printing of these publications is resource demanding, hence it is not possible to publish in additional languages with current resources. The WHO Collaborating Centre for Drug Statistics Methodology is funded by the Norwegian government which provides basic resources needed for maintenance and updating only. The WHO International Working Group for Drug Statistics Methodology is mainly funded by the WHO Headquarters.
